Leeds Occupation to Host all-Leeds General Assembly Today

School, college, and university students are still occupying the Michael Sadler building, Leeds University. This is to protest against crippling tuition fee rises, education cuts, the scrapping of EMA, and the all out assault on the living standards of ordinary people and the welfare state. The building was occupied following a hugely successful day of action. 3,000 Leeds students participated in a series of student walkouts, protests, and marches, with many workers joining in solidarity. This is a democratic occupation where all decisions are made by working groups and mass meetings. We demand the Vice-Chancellor refuses to implement cuts or tuition fee rises. We also demand that there are no victimisations or repercussions for those involved in today’s protest and walkouts.

Today we are all hosting an all-Leeds General Assembly. This meeting is open to all school, college, and university students, parents, staff, and other workers. We are going to discuss how to take the movement forward. On Tuesday 30th November is the next day of action. School, college, and university students will be holding mass walkouts and protests.

Ian Pattison, press representative for the occupation, said “Our occupation is a base for all those who want to fightback. In Leeds, the most successful protests and walkouts on Wednesday’s day of action were from school and college students. We encourage them to join us at today’s General Assembly, and play a leading role in the campaign against the government’s austerity measures.”
