Recent student actions across the world

This is an international movement, and it’s hard to keep up with everything that’s happening all over the world. Here are a few recent developments:

On Thursday, students in Rome occupied the Colosseum and the Leaning Tower of Pisa.

On Friday: strikes in the Philippines, occupations in Canada, strikes and protest in Nepal, and Chile.

Students at the University of Leeds are now into their sixth day of occupation – and support for them is growing.

Over 250 people attended a general assembly held in the occupied Rupert Beckett lecture theatre last Saturday.

These included delegations of school pupils, college students, teachers, lecturers and other trade unionists.

Yesterday afternoon, between 2pm and 6pm, the student occupiers of the Michael Sadler building hosted a well-organised and very well attended symposium, a ‘General Assembly’ which they’d organised, advertised and promoted within 24 hours. Up to 200 people attended the assembly, with age ranges from 13 to 70 (though there was also a one year old baby in attendance) from student, school pupil, parent, teacher, Uni staff and resident demographics.
