Leeds: Students hold second day of fees protest

Hundreds of students will brave the snow to march through the streets of Leeds again to urge the government to re-think its plans to allow huge increases in university fees.

The second national day of action will see college and university students join forces at the Parkinson Steps at Leeds University to march to the Town Hall at lunchtime today.

Yesterday afternoon, between 2pm and 6pm, the student occupiers of the Michael Sadler building hosted a well-organised and very well attended symposium, a ‘General Assembly’ which they’d organised, advertised and promoted within 24 hours. Up to 200 people attended the assembly, with age ranges from 13 to 70 (though there was also a one year old baby in attendance) from student, school pupil, parent, teacher, Uni staff and resident demographics.
